Here are some selections from my sketchbooks that have been sitting around for quite some time. I hope they serve to amuse... :) It just seemed a shame to keep them locked away for the rest of eternity.
Some old character sketches and notes for a story... I can't remember what it was about. I drew this in the late 90's/early 2000's. It was before I was given the nickname "Gia."
Just some strange doodles... I like the hanged man at the top :) I'm such a morbid little creature!
This character was named Selina. She was (obviously, I think) modeled after Michelle Pfeiffer. Lovely creature.
This was a sketch I did in '01 of my little sister. She's quite a beauty. She looks a bit like Avril Lavigne in real life.
This is one of my favourite sketches I've ever done. Even though I did it around a decade ago, I can still look at it without grimacing. I called it "Age." He looks quite frightening, but I still like to look at him.
Every fangirl needs her fan art! I'm a Tolkien fan, and I really like the Lord of the Rings films. I think one of the best examples of perfect casting is Viggo Mortensen in the role of Aragorn.
"Orcs!"
I adore Willem Dafoe's face. If I could sculpt, I would sculpt it. It's strange and beautiful to me.
These are some costume sketches I did for a story that took place around the time of the American Revolution. I love costume design, and it's always been an important aspect, to me, of character design and development. I think a lot of a character's personality can be visually expressed through their clothing.
More costume tidbits of the nightgown variety.
Still more costumes! The top two on the left are some that, if I were a seamstress, I would love to make one day.
Still more costumes! Different story though, this was for a Deadwood-sy, western-themed story.
Her name is Ailin. Can you see the influence Elfquest had on my art style? Thank you, Wendy Pini!!
I can't remember where I got this sketch, but I think I was copying it from something else...(what a little thief!)
Loosely based on Amalthea, of Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn. One of my favourite books. Kind of a lousy sketch though, beg pardons.
Their names were Jeanne and Leon. She was a ballet dancer... his head was too big for his body. :/
I don't know if she's doing Tai Chi or what...exactly.... But I love girls wearing only boots and underwear. Tasteless fantasy art is my calling.
This is a sketch (poses stolen from Luis Royo) of Anne Bonney (L) and Mary Read (R). Lady pirates! I especially love Anne's boots, I want 'em.
Mermaid. Yep.
I told you tasteless fantasy art was my calling. Dragon and Sleeping Maiden. I think I did this in '01. I just love beautiful women and big beasties, can you tell? Frazetta made a living off of that combo (never mind that his art is actually FUCKING AMAZING.)
And here come the millions of sketches of ballerinas I've done.
Yes, I have danced on and off throughout my life, but I was never a "ballerina." That takes far more dedication than I ever gave.
Yay foreshortening!... I'm working on it.... One of my favourite parts about dancing was all the dancewear. I love warm-ups and leotards and legwarmers.
I love time at the barre; stretching and watching your lines in the mirror.
I have scars on my back, well, everywhere, actually. But my scars don't look quite like this. When it comes to bruises and scars, I am quite the aficionado. Strange, I know. But I'm not the only one.
At one point in time, this summed up my feelings perfectly. I would love to translate this into a painting someday. I see it in dark reds and shades of grey.
Again, I would love to rework this piece at a later date, and do it better. I drew this when I was in high school.
For those of you that have the Art of Dragonlance book... you'll know where I stole this from :)
I love this pose, the movement. I can't remember where I saw it...It was part of a larger picture, but this was the only part of it worth saving.
These two lovies were inspired after a trip to Disneyland. The Haunted Mansion ride remains one of my top 5 Disney rides. This was done back in the early 2000's, I believe. I'd have them over for tea, wouldn't you?
All-girl space pirate crew! I love Duchess' pink dreads!
This little waif I drew during class, I think. At the time, I was under the spell of anorexia. All of my drawings were of spindly girls with sharp bones during those years.
Pouting Tinkerbell. I copied this out of a Peter Pan book I used to have; it had the most beautiful illustrations. I lent it to a friend and he lost it. >:(
Aubrita (L) and Nyri (R). I think they were sisters... I don't remember much else of their story.
This was for my own piece of fanfic from back in junior high....No, I shan't tell you what it was for. But you can probably guess...
Nude girl on bed with canopy. Preeeeeetty straightforward.
Another one from back in the junior high days. I don't usually draw men that well-- they always look effeminate. But this fellow I modeled after a character in Tekken, and he came out rather manlyish! I don't know how he got that scar over his eye, though. You'll have to ask him yourself.
Her name is Sera. This was just a basic character/color scheme sketch for some story... I think she had a wolf for a pet.
Here are some more recent drawings:
This one's a bit hard to see... but the gunsmoke reads "I like violence." This idea is based on real life events, actually. Once upon a time, I worked at a library. Part of my job was to issue new library cards to patrons. One day, a woman and her two children, a girl and a boy, came in to get library cards. The library cards had a picture of the Carlsbad Flower Fields on the front. When I gave them their new cards, the mother looked at them and said to her kids, "Oh, look, how pretty! These are much nicer than our old cards!" Her daughter nodded, "I love the flowers!" Then her son, who must have been about seven years old said, "I don't like flowers, I like violence." The mom and I laughed a little bit, I said I completely understand. What a cool little human.
This was for another blog I wrote (I think it's still on the planettobor.com website). The idea was from a line from Closer:
"Have you ever seen a human heart? It looks like a fist wrapped in blood!"
This is "Rocket Mantis." This is what happens when I'm listening to Elton John and trying to be clever. Also, for you music fiends, check out Puscifer's cover of "Rocket Man." I may choreograph a dance to that one sometime. :*
